Description: A carved wall panel surrounding a firebox and connecting bookcases on either side of the room. The piece illustrates the application of Geolithic (deep, fluid) carving to an architectural feature. The surround is constructed of three separate panels which are assembled on site and hung on the wall. The hanging mechanism is a series of custom-made, interlocking Z clips which permit expansion and contraction of the solid wood panels as well as air flow behind to prevent warping. The panels wrap around the corner on the left and right, transitioning to the inset book cases.
