Michael Coffey (1928-2024)
A master woodworker and one of America’s leading studio art furniture makers, Michael leaves a legacy of creative expression and beautiful design. His mission, and the essence of his work, was to create functional sculpture that both aroused passion and stood solid in engineering and functionality. His pieces were shown in art shows and fairs across the world, from the Salon Art & Design in NYC, to shows in Paris, England, and Switzerland. His works are in private collections worldwide.
Michael designed and made his beautiful pieces until the age of 94. In the last decade of his life, Michael made meticulous plans to enable bespoke pieces to continue to be available for the discerning collector. The work continues to be made with the same skill and meticulous eye for detail as when he was here with us by the team of talented woodworkers who worked alongside Michael for many years – Mason Rappaport and Brian Mulcahey. The studio business operations are run under the loving eye of his daughter Linda.
